for psychedelic practice

We are building the field infrastructure that turns isolated excellence
into transparent, verifiable standards for psychedelic practice.

Built with the field

Co-designed with experts across research, harm reduction,
and clinical and non-clinical practice.

Why the standard matters

Excellent psychedelic practice is complex. It draws on ethics, competence, safety, setting, preparation, integration, legal awareness, and the ability to work responsibly with people in vulnerable moments.

PsyStandard turns that complexity into a living verification framework —
co-designed with academic institutions, harm reduction experts, and
practitioner communities, and tested in practice.

How it works

Two parts, one system. The standard defines good practice. Membership
is how practitioners meet it and uphold it

What good practice is measured against

The standard

An evidence-based, multi-layer assessment of demonstrated competence — from credentials to observed practice. Published in full, co-designed with the field.

Being involved in clinical research with psychedelics, it is clear how important it is to develop rigorous, ethical and safe standards for those interested in working with these powerful compounds. PsyStandard provides a valuable framework for ensuring this work is conducted to the highest scientific standards, supporting safe and beneficial outcomes for all involved.

Through my work in mental health care, I’ve come to see how essential credible and recognisable standards are — particularly for start-ups in emerging fields. PsyStandard is uniquely placed to create that difference for all stakeholders and it is great to contribute to this.

Sustaining the practitioner, part one

Key points The closeness that lets this work reach deep material is the same closeness that moves load into the practitioner. Burnout and secondary traumatic stress are the names for what that load becomes when it is not discharged. Sustaining a practice begins at caseload and case selection. Recovery research identifies four experiences that reduce […]

What makes a psychedelic setting safe enough to open up and speak up?

Safe psychedelic settings are where a participant’s “no” is as welcome as their “yes,” and where consent is ongoing, embodied and actively protected by the practitioner, not left to the participant to defend. Key points “You can completely surrender to the experience.” It sounds reassuring, especially for someone who finds letting go of control daunting. […]

Inside the hidden field of non-clinical psychedelic practice

This series describes practice as it exists, including work that is illegal in some jurisdictions. It offers no medical, dosage or legal advice, and nothing here is an endorsement of unlawful practice. PsyStandard seeks to publish its standard openly, as a reference anyone can learn from. Verification and membership are different: they apply only to […]

From pilgrimage to re-rooting: What does integration actually ask of us?

The World Ayahuasca Forum (WAF) took place in Girona, Catalonia, from 11–13 September 2026, bringing together Indigenous wisdom keepers, ayahuasqueros, padrinhos, medicine makers, curanderos, pajés, advocates, conservationists, researchers, practitioners, artists, investors, policymakers, lawyers, and many others working across the global ayahuasca field. “Ayahuasca” is itself an umbrella term and only one name among many for […]

What is psychedelic intervision, and why do psychedelic practitioners need it?

In a field where most practitioners work alone, unregulated, and with clients who are in a substantial and suggestible altered state of consciousness, psychedelic intervision, or ongoing peer-to-peer reflection, is closer to essential infrastructure than a simple nice-to-have. Ultimately, however sound one’s own therapeutic perspective, framework or positionality, neither you nor your clients may be […]

Neurodivergent clients and psychedelics: what competent support actually requires

Neurodivergent people are already in psychedelic spaces. Diagnosed or not, disclosed or not – they are already showing up to ceremonies, clinical trials, and coaching sessions. The question is whether the space is ready for them. Guest contributions from Dr. WaiFung Tsang and Nadia Violet Erlam Foreword By Dr. WaiFung Tsang Neurodiversity should not be […]

What clinical studies can, and can’t, tell us about psychedelic practice: Therapeutic misconception, clinical equipoise and why promising results still need real-world standards

I spend much of my working life inside psychedelic clinical studies. From the outside, a psychedelic study may look, at this point in time, given the 200+ clinical trials globally and an even greater number of experimental medicine studies, a relatively simple and easy thing to deliver and do. A person receives a drug, has […]
